How To Lower The Cost Of Health Insurance
How To Lower The Cost Of Health Insurance
In this article today I would like to discuss several tips, tricks, and tactics that anybody can use to help get a handle on and lower the costs of health insurance.
There is a heated debate in America at the moment about health care. The Democrats want to create a government run health care system and the Republicans are wildly opposed to government run healthcare of any kind. This debate may still be raging in the halls of power but one thing that we can all agree on is that health care costs are spiraling out of control and many of us can no longer afford simple health care or health insurance at all.
Luckily there are a few things you can do about it and that’s what I’d like to talk about in this article today.
The first thing you should do is keep all of your policy materials for your current health insurance plan. You should also keep the advertising that prompted you to originally sign up for the insurance to begin with. Also keep all records of doctor visits and all records of any communications you’ve had with the health insurance plan itself.
There are two reasons to keep all this information. The first reason is that you will probably need it in the future simply to look up different things in your policy whenever you are denied coverage. The second reason is more profound and intricate. You should take your plan information and study it thoroughly so that you fully and completely understand what your insurance policy covers and what it doesn’t. You have to know this inside and out to make sure you’re not getting taken advantage of, because chances are if you don’t you will be taken advantage of.
The next thing you can do to lower your health insurance costs is to get prescreening and wellness tests. Many if not most insurance policies allow for free wellness and prescreening services and I highly recommend you use those services as much as possible because without a doubt the earlier a health problem is diagnosed the easier and much much less expensive it will be to treat the problem. And of course, this will lower your costs in the long run.
Things to get screened for early include checking your cholesterol, getting blood pressure tests, checking for diabetes, getting mammograms and Pap smears, and also receiving childhood immunizations and things like that.
Finally, most insurance policies come with a grievance and appeals process spelled out in the plan. Be sure you understand that process completely and don’t be afraid to use it if you feel that your insurance company has taken advantage of you or raised the costs too high. And remember to always keep as much documentation of everything as possible.
There you have several ways that you can use to get a handle on and cut the rising costs of health care and health insurance. No matter what the debate finally ends up being in Congress, at least there are a few things we can do our own to lower our costs.
